AN ANCESTRAL HOUSE RIGHT AT THE HEART OF GENERAL SANTOS CITY

Do you ever imagine a war-torn ancestral house that stood for decades in Laguna and Batangas being reconstructed and built again here in General Santos City?

This is exactly what the Manilay's Ancestral House is all about. Using the authentic and original materials taken from the ruins of the old houses in Laguna and Batangas, this Ancestral House rose again and was reconstructed here in General Santos City. The old artifacts plus the acquired antique collections of Mr. and Mrs. Warren A. Manilay made the entire Ancestral House a replica of the original house in the Provinces.

It all started with just a simple thought of collecting antiques. The Manilays went to different places in the Philippines where antiques are bountiful, and eventually fell in love with them. They started purchasing few items until it became a passion. They went to as far as Quezon Province, Laguna, Pampanga, Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur to acquire different antiques; from religious artifacts to crystals to house furniture to even old automobiles.

But one thing bothers them. Where will they place all their collections? It has to be seen and be showcased so people here in General Santos could have a glimpse of the past and could appreciate them.

Until they decided to ship all the original items from the old   houses in Laguna and Batangas to General Santos City;  from the pieces wood up to the smallest usable items, the rest is HISTORY…….There now stands in Purok Malakas the only Ancestral House in General Santos City built from original materials and ornamented with authentic artifacts from all over the country. It is such a sight that prominent people make it a point to visit the Ancestral House when they come here in Gensan. The likes of the Chief PNP,  General and Mrs. Verzosa, the Land Transportation Chief, General Arturo Lomibao,  the boxing hero and wife Manny and Jinky Pacquiao, the RnB prince, Jay-R, Secretary Puno, Gabriela Congresswoman Liza Masa, the National Security Adviser, Norberto Gonzales and Gov. Chavit Singson and many others are among the guests who have graced and took dinners prepared by the couple.

With the  vision to make the Ancestral House  one of the tourist attractions here in General Santos City, they will put up a museum, vintage car showcase, a mineature old church, and a café to cater visitors who will come over to visit the Ancestral House.
